Figure out some exercises that will get his attention. Not meaning you should stick your butt in his face, but do something challenging or technical, like core & balance exercises. Maybe there’s an opportunity to work in with him on a machine. Or for him to spot you on something.

oh I’ve managed the “pose” a few times… not obvious- I’m too much of a puss.

I did notice today that when he did his cardio he moved from one end of the gym yesterday, to the end where I was working out today (and the place was empty. he could have been on a machine anywhere either day).

That’s it!! There’s your in. Weights help you gain muscle so you burn fat more quickly. You don’t have to do them every day, but they help. (Also great for fighting bone loss for women.) So go up to him one day when he’s on a break from a set, introduce yourself, explain that you want to know more about how to do the big scary weights (even if you know how) and ask him to teach you some things. Guys love to show off their knowledge of manly things, so it’s bound to work.
