at what age do you become a cougar?

my friends and i were pondering this same question not two weeks ago, and the men we were with said that 1. you must be at least a decade older than the younger man and 2. there is no such thing as a cougar under 38.  Nevertheless, we also decided that a 38 yr. old woman dating a 28 yr old man cannot be described as a cougar — under 40 requires at least a 14 yr. age difference.  we didn’t get into the top ages of cougardom, like when a 65 yr. old woman dates a 45 yr old man, so i think that maybe it would be wise to establish boundaries as to when a woman is no longer eligible to be a cougar.  On second thought though, maybe we shouldn’t worry so much about when a woman is no longer a cougar (and all of those wonderful traits that label entails), and focus more upon when a man is no longer eligible to be ‘prey.’  in other words, is a 70 yr old woman dating a 50 yr old man a cougar?
